What is Pasni?
Pasni (पास्नी) is Nepal’s rice-feeding ceremony: the occasion when a baby eats solid food for the first time. Girls traditionally reach this milestone at five months, boys at six. The ceremony involves puja rituals and blessings, a feeding of rice alongside symbolic items placed before the baby (a book, soil, money, and other objects believed to indicate the child’s future path), and a gathering that can run most of the day. In some Newari households, the ceremony also includes ear piercing for the baby, done with gold or silver earrings. The details vary by community and family tradition.

What Makes a Good Pasni Gift?
